Most teams at Red Bull Campus Clutch are likely to have different line-ups (one defensive team, for instance, might play with two support players) but as long as you have a good range of abilities across your squad then you can’t really go wrong.

Phoenix’s Ultimate, Run It Back, allows him to return to a respawn marker with full health if he dies. Just ensure the marker is in a safe position before you activate it, and perhaps ask a teammate to keep an eye on it.
Cut off enemy rotations by using Blaze to project a big wall of fire around your rivals. Once you have them hemmed in, flash yourself in and go to work.

Here’s one for the multi-taskers. Stifling the enemy with strategic smokescreens, unique abilities and smart teamwork, controllers aren’t easy to master but, in a game where the clock is everything, they’re a diligent breed of agent who can make the difference.

Trap enemies in choke points, ideally any L-shaped pathways, and let Raze’s rocket launcher do the rest. You might even wipe a whole team. Alternatively, when in a sticky situation yourself, detonate Raze’s Blast Pack in the opposite direction of trouble for a quick escape.
Send Boom Bot from the Hookah window on Bind and the gadget will do a full circle of B Site, helping your team lock the site down much more smoothly.
Make the most of Jett’s unrivalled agility by clicking the shoot and the dash button at approximately the same time. Done properly, the enemy won’t be able to land a shot back at you.
Utilise Jett’s unique hangtime ability for jumping and peering over walls to gather intel on enemy positions. Similarly, if you play with Sage, combine your Updraft with her Barrier Wall ability to create makeshift sniper nests.
Campers in a building? Throw Leer towards them and it will not only render opponents momentarily blind, but reveal their number as they attempt to shoot the purple blotch off their screens.
Don’t bother buying shields. Save your creds as Reyna can suck the souls of vanquished opponents to replenish health and increase armour.
Fakeout allows Yoru to generate artificial footsteps, sending them in another direction to fool the enemy. Rather than simply evading an opponent though, try pre-empting their position and swing out on them from behind as they push thin air.
As Yoru doesn’t possess a healing ability, he is far stronger arriving in a firefight as backup. By using your teleport ability Gatecrash you can even set up a portal before pushing on a team, in case you find yourself outgunned and need an out.
One really helpful way to close out a game is by putting Viper’s Pit around any spike the enemy are trying to defuse. The longer they stay inside, the more HP they will lose.
Shotguns are cheap on VALORANT for a reason. Nobody really uses them. But if you’re setting up Viper Pit, this weapon could be just the ticket for a close quarters battle inside the toxic plume.
Drop Sky Smoke on multiple lanes while pushing an opponent. Listen for footsteps and quickly decide on a lane to push down before the smoke clears. It’s an aggressive play but great for catching opponents off guard.
Keep an eye on the mini map for teammates marking enemies around narrow entry points. You can always launch your Ultimate, Orbital Strike, for maximum damage.
When using Shrouded Step to teleport somewhere close in the heat of battle, look for boxes, steps, or havens to get higher ground and a more advantageous position on your opponent.
If your team has been pushing a site to plant a spike and the entire enemy has rotated there with little time left on the clock, use your Ultimate to teleport to the opposite site and plant there instead.
Once a spike is planted, place a Nanoswarm directly on top of it to stall any defuse. Sneakily, plant a second Nanoswarm just behind that one in the hope the enemy runs into that bomb as well.
As a post-plant tool, Killjoy’s Ultimate — simply called Lockdown — is hard to beat. The device detains all enemies inside in its radius, leaving them unable to shoot or use abilities for eight seconds. Time it right and it could win you the game.
Before big matches, practice looking for lesser known spots on the maps to place Trapwire (such across the ropes on Split) that the enemy won’t see coming.
When playing defensively, try holding three angles at once by setting two Trapwires on two corners and using your eyes on the third entry point. Played right, Cypher can be the eyes and ears of your team.
Thanks to Barrier ability, Sage can wall boost to create lesser-known high vantage points, such as on top of the truck at site A on Bind, which can be highly effective for surprising rival teams.
Sage’s Ultimate allows her to resurrect an ally from the dead. But while it may be tempting to reanimate the teammate closest to you, take a second to think about the utilities your team needs at that moment before choosing an agent to bring back into play.
Aftershock is a delayed blast that goes through walls, making it a great ability to clear angles and corners with. Not least around popular hiding locations such as Mail on Split.
Thanks to Rolling Thunder, Breach can send giant shockwaves to decimate everything in its path. FYI, you can also use this ability to stop a team defusing or planting a spike nearby by throwing them off it.
After planting a spike, immediately look upwards, extend your bow back as far as possible and fire a Shock Bolt directly into the sky. Bouncing a few times before detonation, it could give you a vital 20 seconds before opponents attempt a defusal.
Another key aspect of Sova’s bow is that with the right trajectory you can fire shock bolts over walls to hit enemies from a safe distance. Over on Bind, you can clear enemies from the back of A Site by firing from Attack Spawn to under A Tower.
Skye’s Ultimate sees her fire out three spirits known as Seekers to track down her closest enemies. They are fairly slow and can be shot down, so use this ability when in close vicinity with rivals to distract them at a potential clutch point in the game.
Much more potent in attack than defence, teams should utilise Skye’s initiator skills (flashes, Trailblazer), swinging corners and pushing alongside aggressive entry fraggers such as Phoenix.

Two sites. Three lanes. One frosty welcome. Icebox offers an intense mix of indoor and outdoor battleground, and even a zipline across the map — if you don’t mind taking your chances, that is.

The clue’s in the name but towers and high vantage points play a huge role on Ascent. Its two sites are split by a sprawling middle section and there are even irreversible bomb doors to contend with.

On twisty maps such as Haven, in-game leaders (IGLs) would be wise to use Astral Form. This way you can ethereally hover above the map to get a bird’s-eye-view of the busiest action points.
Whether you’re planting a spike or detonating one, Astra’s Ultimate can raise a giant wall capable of blocking visuals and even bullets. It’s fairly soundproof too, and should buy you time when you need it most.
